Assistant Activity Coordinator Description – Desert Winds
JOB TITLE: ASSISTANT ACTIVITY COORDINATOR
BROAD SCOPE OF POSITION:
Act under the supervision of licensed nursing personnel to assist other nurse aides in carrying out all duties of personal care and assistance (including housekeeping, serving of food, laundry functions) to residents of the Assisted Living Community. Act under the supervision of Activities Director to implement a complete program of activities suitable to the abilities of the residents.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
- Work in conjunction with Activity Director to create a program of activities for Assisted Living residents
- Schedule, coordinate and implement an activity program to all residents, according to residents’ abilities
- Assist residents with activities of daily living, including bathing, dressing grooming, toileting, oral hygiene, positioning, transfers, mobility and incontinence care within the guidelines of state law and company policies and procedures
- Collect, launder and distribute residents’ personal laundry, including bed linens; follow all policies governing infection control and hazardous waste
- Prepare, assist with and document the administration of medication to residents under supervision of licensed nurse and in strict compliance with state regulations and physician’s orders
- Prepare residents for meals and snacks and assist residents in dining room
- Keep proper records of care and activities implemented
- Follow all safety and infection control policies and procedures
- Maintain cleanliness of resident rooms, common areas, offices and corridors as scheduled. Ensure safety in all areas
- Attend all required in-service training
- Comply with and understand all resident rights issues
- Communicate all pertinent information to L.P.N. and Activity Director
- Communicate with oncoming shift to ensure follow through of duties
- Report unsafe or hazardous conditions immediately
- Assume front desk receptionist duties as required daily
- Other duties as assigned

SPECIAL SKILLS OR REQUIREMENTS:
- Communications skills
- Maintain composure under stress
- Be able to identify and assist in emergency medical situations
- Communicate effectively with residents, families, staff, community and State officials and general public
- Compassion and desire to work with frail and elderly
- Meet all State health requirements
- Able to work on full or part time regular schedule and on-call as needed
- Creative aptitude helpful
EDUCATION REQUIRED:
- High school diploma or equivalent
EXPERIENCE PREFERRED:
- Experience in long term or geriatric care
- Experience in senior activity programs
